Brasov

Romania

Notes From Kev

This is the most popular city in Romania and I can definitely see why! The downtown area was really nice and the surrounding castles are beautiful. Peles Castle is especially amazing and the nicest one we have seen inside and out. The most popular tourist attraction, Bran Castle, known as Dracula's Castle (no legitimate relation to the Dracula story), was also amazing.

I ate pig testicles (mountain oysters)! They were boiled, cut up, and then lightly fried. They weren't bad at all but certainly not my favorite. This same restaurant usually serves pig brains also but luckily they were not serving it while we were there so I did not have to be tempted to try it.

Fun Fact: Vlad the Impaler, the person who the fictitious Dracula character is based on, was a ruler who became known around the world for his ruthless cruelty. Specifically, he was known for impaling invading Ottoman soldiers through the rectum and up their spine before staking them into the ground. These staked soldiers would sometimes remain alive in this state for 24 hours and be a warning for other members of the invading army.
